Just Got Engaged? Your Month-by-Month Wedding Planning Checklist

The Excitement Begins

Congratulations - you’re engaged! This is such a meaningful season filled with joy, love, and anticipation. For many Utah couples, wedding planning often happens on a shorter timeline, sometimes within just six months. That’s why staying organized early makes all the difference in keeping things calm, clear, and enjoyable.

To help, our team at Moments Made Bridal created a month-by-month wedding planning checklist designed for shorter engagements and stress-free planning.

4 to 6 Months Before Your Wedding

  1. Set a budget. - Decide how much you’ll spend overall and outline estimates for key categories such as your venue, dress, flowers, catering, and photography. Having a clear financial plan makes decision-making much easier down the road.
  2. Book your venue and confirm your date - Popular Utah wedding venues and LDS temples often book far in advance, so reserve early to secure your dream location.
  3. Create your guest list - Gather names, addresses, and contact information now to save time when invitations go out.
  4. Research and book vendors - Photographers, florists, caterers, and DJs are typically high-demand vendors. Reach out early to lock in your top choices.
  5. Say yes to your dress - Wedding gowns can take several months to arrive and will need time for alterations, especially modest or temple-ready designs. Shopping early ensures you’ll have the best selection of styles and a relaxed experience at Moments Made Bridal.
  6. Book your alterations appointment - After you’ve said yes to the dream wedding dress, reach out to the alterations specialists and get your appointments booked! You’ll want to have your dress fitted to your specific needs and booking that as soon as possible will ensure a great fit on your wedding day!
  7. Take engagement photos - These are perfect for announcements, invitations, and capturing the start of your forever together.

3 Months Before

  1. Build your wedding website - Include ceremony details, travel tips, and your registry links so guests can easily find everything in one place.
  2. Choose your wedding party - Surround yourself with supportive friends and family who will help make the day memorable and joyful.
  3. Start your registry - Select items that fit your lifestyle:  a mix of practical, sentimental, and fun.

2 Months Before

  1. Send invitations - Two months out gives guests time to RSVP and arrange travel if needed.
  2. Book your honeymoon - Finalize flights, hotels, and transportation early for better rates and availability.
  3. Alterations Fitting - If you’ve booked your appointment for your alterations fitting, usually the first fitting will be around this time. Ideally we recommend having your first fitting done one month prior to either your wedding date or your bridal photos!

1 Month Before

  1. Get your marriage license - Check your county’s marriage license requirements in advance — most expire within 30 days of issue.
  2. Finalize vendor details - Confirm timelines, payment schedules, and delivery details with each vendor. A quick check-in ensures everyone’s on the same page.
  3. Schedule beauty appointments - Plan hair and makeup trials, nail appointments, and any touch-ups in advance. You deserve to feel confident and radiant from your first look to your last dance.
