If you're special ordering a wedding dress, the average timeline is 6–9 months from the day you order until your gown arrives at the shop.
That timeline includes both the designer's production schedule and shipping to our store. After your dress arrives, you'll still want to allow time for alterations before your bridals and wedding day.
Every designer has different production schedules, so some gowns arrive sooner than others. In some cases, a designer may already have your gown in stock in your size, which can significantly shorten the timeline from months to a matter of weeks.
During your appointment, your stylist will always let you know what timeline to expect before you place your order.
Understanding Wedding Dress Production Time
Most bridal gowns are made to order, meaning your dress isn't always just sitting in a warehouse waiting to ship. Once you say "yes" to the dress, the designer begins making your gown specifically for you based on the designer size chart.
Production time depends on several factors, including:
- The designer's current production schedule
- Busy wedding seasons
- Fabric availability
- Intricate lace, beading, or detailed construction
- Custom sizing or design changes
Because every gown is different, production times can vary, even within the same designer's collection.
After Your Wedding Dress Arrives in Store
Once your gown is finished by the designer and shipped to Moments Made, we'll inspect it carefully and contact you to schedule your pickup appointment. This is your chance to try your gown on again, celebrate that exciting moment, and start planning your alterations.
Customizations & Modest Wedding Dress Ordering
Because we exclusively carry modest wedding dresses, many of our gowns already meet the modesty preferences our brides are looking for. However, some brides still choose to customize their gown to better match their personal style or temple standards if the designer allows.
Customizations may include:
- Adding sleeves
- Changing the neckline
- Shortening train
- Adjusting lining
These changes can affect production timelines depending on the designer, so it's always best to discuss any modifications with your stylist during your appointment. The earlier you decide on customizations, the more flexibility you'll have.
Don't Forget the Wedding Dress Alterations Timeline
One thing many brides don't realize is that ordering your dress and altering your dress are two separate timelines.
At Moments Made, alterations are completed outside of our shop, so you'll want to plan ahead with your seamstress.
We generally recommend giving your seamstress one to three months before you need your gown. Depending on the work your gown needs, you may have multiple fittings throughout that time.
Most brides need at least a few alterations to achieve the perfect fit, including:
- Hemming the length
- Adding a bustle
- Lifting the shoulders
- Taking in the bodice
Some dresses require very little work, while others need more extensive alterations. Giving your seamstress plenty of time helps ensure everything is completed without adding unnecessary stress to your wedding planning.
Need Your Dress Sooner? Rush Ordering May Be Available
If waiting 6–9 months doesn't fit your timeline, don't panic.
Many of our designers offer rush production for an additional fee. For example, Casablanca Bridal offers rush options on many gowns, allowing brides to receive a brand-new dress much sooner than the standard production timeline.
When you find the dress you love, your stylist will explain every option available, including:
- Standard special ordering
- Stock gowns
- Rush ordering (when available)

What We Typically See for Utah Brides
Wedding timelines in Utah often look a little different than they do in other parts of the country.
Many of the brides we work with are planning weddings within 2–4 months, especially those preparing for temple marriages or shorter engagements. Because of that, we're very familiar with helping brides find beautiful gowns without a year-long planning timeline.
